New at Wheatsville

The dog days of summer have definitely hit, but we’ve still got plenty of exciting new stuff finding its way onto our shelves. Bulk organic jak fruit, Andouille-spiked hummus, and Groovy Green kombucha are just a few of the delightful fun finds we’ve added recently. Read on for more about everything that’s new at Wheatsville this week!

New Bulk Fruits from Tierra Farm
In the past, much of the bulk fruit sold here at Wheatsville was repacked in-house into smaller, retail-sized packages than those in which it shipped. This meant that although we were using organic foods in many cases, they could not be labeled as such due to the potential of their organic integrity to be compromised during the re-packaging process.

Enter, Tierra Farm, our newest source for high quality and great tasting 100% certified organic nuts, seeds and dried fruits! Tierra Farm is a small, privately owned, certified organic producer and roasting company in upstate New York. All of Tierra's roasting, mixing and flavoring is conducted in-house, in their own certified organic, peanut-free roasting and processing facility. Tierra Farm’s dried fruit is sweetened without refined sugar and is sulfite-free. Look for the following new fruits in our Bulk department in tubs bearing Wheatsville’s own brand, now proudly carrying the USDA Organic seal:

Organic Jak Fruit, 4oz Reg. $3.99/lb
Organic Dried Tomatoes, 4oz Reg. $4.49/lb

Wildbrine products are made with a new twist on the time-honored process of brining and fermenting foods. Fermentation is a natural, traditional method of preserving the harvest that maintains the health benefits of raw food, boosting its nutritional value and delivering deliciously complex and balanced flavors! Sauerkraut is high in vitamin C and digestive enzymes, and provides a high-density source of a wide range of beneficial live bacteria, which assist in the digestive process.

Wildbrine’s Arame & Ginger Sauerkraut combines nutrient dense sea-vegetables with just the right amount of fresh ginger and organic green cabbage to deliver the classic tart taste expected in high-quality sauerkraut. The umami-flavor of miso and the earthy heat of horseradish are lightened by a bright citrus note in the refreshing Horseradish Kimchi; the Madras Curry Cauliflower is a zesty combination of vibrant Madras curry, crisp cabbage, and cauliflower fermented into a savory, eastern-inspired sauerkraut. All are 100% natural and wild-fermented, without the use of vinegar! 18oz, Reg. $6.99

Austin-born Baby Zach’s utilizes a trade secret “Agitative Baking Process” to evenly smoke hummus flavors with real apple wood, shunning the use of liquid smoke. Forgoing the traditional garbanzo bean base that constitutes most hummus, Baby Zach's newest offering is a Red Bean Hummus spiked judiciously with Cajun Andouille seasoning. Paprika, chili pepper, and cayenne impart a piquant zip that will be a standout smeared along the insides of your next Po'Boy, or simply scooped up straight from the tub. 8oz, Reg. $3.49

Quorn, the best-selling frozen meat-free brand in the world, has added frozen burritos to their range of meat-free, soy-free products. Stuffed with tidbits of Quorn's wildly popular "tenders", these burritos offer on-the-go convenience for those looking for a meaty texture without soy protein. Two savory combos, Chik’n & Tomato Roasted Corn Salsa and Chipotle Lime Chik’n & Bean, are sure to be a hit. Quorn burritos are free of GMO's and eight major allergens.
6oz, Reg. $3.29

Himalania’s Pink Salt comes from the foothills of the Himalayas where, millions of years ago, a primordial sea was evaporated by the sun, leaving pristine crystalline salt. Today, this crystal salt, buried deep in the Himalayan Mountains, is mined and processed gently by hand to bring you a salt that retains the original qualities of this ancient body of water. Its richness in minerals confers a unique speckled pink color, and its subtle crunch makes it a favorite finishing salt. A handy grater allows the rose-hued salt rocks to be grated as needed.
7oz, Reg. $11.99

Newman’s Own Organics introduces the first sour licorice twist made with organic ingredients. Licorice twists are the most popular kind of licorice candy and the organic sugar and sour crystals, derived from natural citrus sources, on the surface of the twists provides the special taste for three tantalizing new flavors: Strawberry, Sour Mango and Sour Apple. 5oz, Reg. $2.49

In 2008, the students and teachers of Breath and Body Yoga were introduced to a locally brewed kombucha and instantly became fans of the ancient elixir. When the local brewer stopped production, a group of yogis decided to fill the void, and Kosmic Kombucha was born. Kosmic Kombucha is brewed in Austin with organic ingredients and fresh produce from local markets. In May of this year, Kosmic finally debuted a line of new 16oz flavors; two late additions to the line have now made their way onto our shelves: Groovy Green and Wheatsville's Own Pear of the Dog made especially for us! Groovy Green features a blend of kiwi, pineapple, coconut, wheatgrass and agave-- perfect to get your morning started. Pear of the Dog is a pucker-ey concoction of prickly pear, orange, lime, and olive juice, rounded off with a touch of agave and sea salt. 16oz, Reg. $3.59
