Hatch Green Chiles & Organic Sungold Tomatoes!
This week, we’re featuring two great produce items: Hatch Green Chile and Organic Sungold Cherry Tomatoes.
I’m from New Mexico and the onset of green chile season always indicates the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. Cool, crisp mornings and the smell of roasting green chile – sublime. You probably don’t have a chile roaster lying around your house, but you can easily roast your own chiles on your barbeque outside or on your gas stovetop inside. My favorite stovetop method involves using a collapsible vegetable steamer. Put the gas on medium, throw down a few chiles and maybe a jalapeno or Serrano pepper and let it go! Turn the peppers frequently. You want to char the outside but not burn up the inner flesh. A properly cooked green chile will be soft, with the skin flaking off. Pull off the skin and remove the seeds – eat while still warm or freeze for later use. Green chiles go so well with hamburgers and cheddar cheese. Roasting a batch of green chile on the side with your burger is just a small extra step with a huge payoff. Give it a shot! Green chile season is short and supplies are limited, so don’t wait on this one!
We’ve been selling pounds and pounds of Organic Sungold Cherry Tomatoes, and for good reason! They are incredible! Buy two pints – one for the ride home, one for dinner! My new favorite way to prepare these babies is roasting them in the broiler – just toss them with some salt, pepper, and olive oil. Roast for 15 or so minutes at 400 degrees. I like them warm with a creamy pasta, but you can find many different applications – bruschetta, caprese salad, cold seafood salads, on top of pizza, or just eaten as is.
