See you in September!

Hello Wheatsville friends and fans!

Tomorrow is September 1st and so begins Organic Month! We started our celebration off early with a visit to UT today to meet the students and let them know what makes Wheatsville so special.

We handed out organic carrots with green tops and seasonal organic plum and pluots. We were delighted to see so many students excited about organic, excited about fresh and local producers and vendors and excited to be a part of our special Austin community. Welcome back, UT students!

Also, don't forget us this weekend as you prepare for Labor Day! We have everything you need to have a smokin' BBQ -  from charcoal to portabellos, sparkling wine to popsicles.

Or if you'd rather take it easy, we have pre-cooked Niman Ranch Pulled Pork and fully-cooked Niman Ranch Sausage (Thai Style, Andouille and Bratwurst) on sale in our Meat Department. All you need to do is add a little heat and you'll have a Labor Day feast you didn't even have to break a sweat for.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend! Stay cool and see you in September!

WHEATSVILLE’S ONE BIG THING

This week's One Big Thing is Grandma's Humus!

I always said it was going to take a pretty special humus to take the place of my tried and true. But folk, I gotta tell ya, this stuff is amazing. Fresh, tangy, garlicky and delicious, this hummus just knocks it out of the park.

Fantastic with fresh pita, falafel or on a veggie sandwich. A perfect dip for carrot sticks in your kids lunchbox or paired with a fresh cucumber or tomato. Honestly, do yourself a favor and try this humus.

And guess what? It's made right here in Austin and is 100% Organic! How's that for awesome?

Green & Blue

While there isn’t much to speak of in the way of Texas-grown produce, lots of great things are happening on the national seasonal front.  It’s still the dead of summer here but seasons are changing in other parts of the country, and that means changes to look forward to: pears, apples, then (dare I even mention?) citrus!  Never fear!  We’ve got plenty of yummy fruits and vegetables in the store now.

We LOVE Organic Reed Avocados!  They’re bigger and smoother than the Hass varieties, and they’re great eating, too.  They have a higher water content and are a little milder than Hass avocados, so we don’t recommend them for guacamole but they are easily spread and great on sandwiches and in salads.  Reed avocados have a short growing season and are available for a limited time.  Try one instead of a Hass the next time you shop.

We’ve also got some surprisingly great Organic Blueberries right now.  The season is nearing a close – usually around September, but the berries we have at the co-op are still big, plump, delicious and beautiful.  They taste like they’re still in the height of the season.  Blueberries pack an antioxidant punch and a handful of them give a boost to any dish – in pancakes or eggs for breakfast, on salads with some parmesan and a baguette for lunch, or with grilled chicken for dinner.  You can’t go wrong.

Tame your thirst!

Beat the heat with our Deli’s brand new Agave Lemonade! This sweet-tart refresher can also be split with our Organic Black Tea, Hibiscus Mint Tea or Yerba Mate for a trio of tasty thirst-quenchers!

Our bakers have whipped up some tasty treats that are both vegan & soy free! Keep an eye out for our Vanilla Peach, Strawberry Banana, Mango Peach & Coconut Almond Muffins, all made with coconut or almond milk!

Having a Labor Day celebration? Leave the cooking to us! Our affordable Catering Menu includes all sorts of convenient and gourmet dishes for a crowd, like platters of Raw Veggies, Popcorn Tofu, Bakery Bars, Cut Fruit, Side Salads and Whole Cakes! Find your favorites on our website and call us at the Deli to place your order: 512-478-1164!
