WHEATSVILLE’S ONE BIG THING

Every week, Wheatsville staff picks the product we’re most excited about right now! Once again, our One Big Thing comes from the talented mind of a WV staffer. Stop by the full-service meat case for meat buyer Mark Maddy’s TIPSY COW SAUSAGE!

What do we like about Tipsy Cow sausage?

1) You can try it for the limited-time introductory price of $7.99/lb!

2) Tipsy Cow sausage is all-beef, a tasty, chorizo-style alternative to traditional pork sausage.

3) Its short ingredient list—Niman Ranch beef, ancho chiles, North Coast Brewery Pranqster beer, paprika, salt and black pepper—packs a powerfully flavorful punch!

Come on over to the meat counter today for some Tipsy Cow sausage. Once you’ve tried it, don’t forget to let us know what you think!

Summit Maibock and Santa Rita Cab on big deal!

Summit Maibock blowout sale! Summit Maibock 6 packs are just $5.99 regularly $8.49! This traditional German style earned the nickname “liquid bread” because it was brewed by monks to help them get through Lenten fasting. Moravian 37 malts and Czech Saaz hops give it a toasted sweetness with a little spice in the finish.

Enjoy Santa Rita 120 Cabernet only $6.99, regularly $9.99!

This wine displays a brilliant ruby red color, with an intense bouquet developed through a combination of mature red fruits and plums and vanilla tones, with a fine toast from the barrels. Don’t forget. Buy 6 or more bottles of wine and you get 10% off! Any wine, any price, mix and match.

Bulk can help you be cooler!

Cold Brewed Bulk Coffee

For the rest of this month we have the wonderful Midnight Sun coffee from Equal Exchange on sale for just $8.99/lb reg. $11.49. This tasty French Roast is a blend of beans from three small farming Co-ops in Ethiopia, Peru, and Honduras, and I find that it is a perfect blend for making your own cold brewed coffee. Cold brewing is a no-heat method of brewing coffee that produces a bold flavor and lower acidity, and it really hits the spot on these hot summer days. Here’s a simple recipe for preparing cold-brewed coffee at home: http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/08/cold-brewed-iced-coffee/

We will be sampling this wonderful beverage this Sunday from noon to 4:00 in the bulk department, so stop on by and give it a try!

Good Morning from the Wheatsville Bakery!

Fresh-baked muffins & scones await you in our Bakery case every morning, starting at 7:30am! Come on in & start your day with a tasty pastry like our new, delectable Buttermilk Scone varieties like Lemon Glazed, Bacon & Black Pepper or Sunshine Citrus! These buttery, not-too-sweet treats are baked fresh every morning, along with our house-made muffins! Try our fantastic flavors like Two-Berry, Blueberry Bran, Pumpkin Apple and Banana Chocolate Chip! And for those of you looking to limit the gluten in your diet, c’mon in for our Bakery’s Wheat-Free Wednesdays and choose from a selection of gluten-free baked goods! Also, be sure to check out our new Bakery table in front of the Deli Counter! On there you’ll find an assortment of wrapped, sweet treats, as well as some of our fresh-baked LaBrea artisan breads – have you tried our new Kalamata Olive Loaf? Yum!

More delicious and cool deli action here!

Copper River Salmon is here!

Copper River Salmon is here and on sale for $17.99/lb, reg. $23.99/lb.

What makes this salmon so special? Salmon that originate in the waters of the Copper River, in Alaska, are challenged by its length and its strong, chill rapids. Consequently, Copper River salmon are strong, robust creatures with a healthy store of natural oils and body fat.

Check out more about the salmon here: http://gonw.about.com/od/fooddrink/a/copperriver.htm

New House-Made Sausages!!! Intro price of $7.99/lb.

Tipsy Cow sausage is made with Niman Ranch Black Angus Beef, smoky ancho chilies, and Northcoast Brewery’s Pranqster beer. The ancho chilies lend a very mild heat with some subtle smoke, while the Pranqster brings a bold Belgian Style Ale flavor to the party.

Curry Chicken Sausage is made with local Buddy’s local, all- natural chicken and flavored with coconut vinegar and sweetened with coconut milk to add to its moistness and flavor. This unique sausage has a mild yet flavor packed punch!

Favorites from our New Sausage Sampler last Saturday are the Pederson’s JalapeƱo Kielbasa and the Niman Ranch Apple Gouda Sausage. Both of these sausages were crowd pleasers. The kielbasa is a great deal at $5.79 a package. Perfect on the grill to add a different flavor to your standard grilling sausages. Want to do something other than grill sausage? The Apple Gouda Sausage is a great addition to a pasta dish featuring any variety of local, fresh produce.

If you have a little time on your hands and want to make a true classic this recipe is amazing! The first time I had a Sunday Sauce was at a staff party and my mind was blown! Food52 does a great job of working through the recipes with story and background. I hope you like this one! http://www.food52.com/recipes/11544_sunday_pork_ragu

This recipe is a little easier and quicker to make. The recipe calls for sausage in casing, that you then remove and crumble and cook. You could also use a pre-packaged sausage for a quicker version. Cut this in small slices and pan sear. http://www.food52.com/recipes/6790_simple_sausage_pasta

While supplies last! We have Applegate Farms Chicken Patties at $4.99, Reg. $5.99.

Cheese Island gets FRESH!

I have something exciting to tell you!! We are starting a Fresh Mozzarella program. We will be pulling ovoline sized mozzarella balls out on the sales floor and of course we will be offering samples and talking about the history of Mozzarella, and the the making of Mozzarella. The dates for the pulling will be July 6th and 9th. The time will be announced in the next e-mail. Stay tuned for more information.

Summer melons, get you some!

This week I’m excited to announce the arrival of Organic Texas-Grown Watermelon from Wheatsville’s beloved Buena Tierra Farms! This is a limited opportunity – we’re getting some in today (6/23), and though there is a slight possibility of more next week, your only guaranteed opportunity to try one will be this weekend! We’re getting three bins of them which is a pretty incredible logistical feat, if you’d like to know. We’ll be pushing them hard all weekend with samples and plenty of cut and wrapped quarters and halves for those who might balk at the commitment an entire melon. They’re really reasonably priced, too: $6.49 for a large whole melon, $3.49 for a half, $2.49 for a quarter. They are guaranteed to be delicious! Buena Tierra has been delivering some incredible melons. This week, we saw the most incredible Israeli Cantaloupe, Galia Melon, and Crenshaws we ever tasted. Those folks know how to grow melon!

On the seasonal side, we love stone fruit in all its forms: cherries, peaches, plums, apricots, pluots, and our current favorite: nectarines. We’ve got organic nectarines, California grown, and they are amazing. They’re punchier in flavor than the peaches, not as sweet but so delicious! Give them a shot, or ask us for a free sample.
