New at Wheatsville

Vegan, coconut cream-based caramel candies? Yes, please! Read on to hear more about new JJ Sweets’ Cocomels, and everything else new at Wheatsville this week.

Sierra Nevada launched a beer brewer's fantasty camp back in 2008, inviting fans from across the country to its Chico, Calif., brewery for a two-day Beer Camp. What started as a monthly occurrence is now held almost weekly. Under the direction of Steve Grossman (brother of Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman), participants taste beers, learn about the brewing process, shovel malts and hops, work the bottling line, and create a unique group beer. Every year, the brewery picks four of these experimental ales for its Beer Camp Variety 12-Packs – three bottles each of four different styles:

Sierra Nevada Oatmeal Stout (9% abv)
This big oatmeal stout is midnight-black in color-with a big roast-y, mocha-like aroma. It has a silky body from the use of rolled oats, and a round and lasting finish. Perfect as an after dinner treat.

Sierra Nevada Imperial Red Ale (8.1% abv)
This Imperial Red Ale takes the intense hop profile found in a traditional double IPA and turns up the malt. It has big aromatic hop notes of grapefruit, peach and melon – balanced by a smooth and surprisingly robust malt body.

Sierra Nevada Imperial Pilsner (5.6% abv)
Packing a big hop-forward punch and bright crisp finish, this golden pilsner features a hearty dose of “sticky,” resinous Crystal and Pacifica dry hops, which balance the light-bodied yet complex malt backbone.

Sierra Nevada Floral IPA (5.9%)
This unique take on the traditional IPA style pairs the bold and intense aromas of whole-cone hop “flowers” with aromatic natural rose hips and petals for complex aromas and unexpected flavors. 12pk, $19.99

Paneer & Queso Blanco

Do you love Indian food dishes that have those delicious soft cheese cubes soaking up curry? That’s Paneer! Queso Blanco is another yummy farmers’ cheese often seen crumbled in Spanish and Mexican cooking. These cheeses are versatile and unique because they don’t melt and can even be pan-grilled. Crusty, chewy, crazy good. Imagine the possibilities! Use both of them as delicious and economical meat replacements or snacks. The kit contains just about everything you’ll need to make 10 batches (2lbs!)-- just add a gallon of milk and in one hour (plus optional 15 min.-2 hr. wait time depending on how firm you want it) you will be eating and sharing your very own fresh cheese! 7.25oz, Reg. $20.99

Cocomels are a delicious, smooth, creamy and dairy-free caramel treat made with coconut milk instead of dairy milk. Four rich, chewy varieties are available in the following flavors:

Original - The one that started it all! Smooth creamy coconut milk makes the Cocomel like no other caramel. A mouthwatering, smooth and decadent artisanal treat with a delicious and unique flavor.
Sea Salt - The original Cocomel with a sprinkle of Fleur de Sel sea salt, this Cocomel delivers that irresistible salty/sweet combination.
Vanilla - A hint of natural vanilla gives this Cocomel an aromatic richness unparalleled in the other flavors.
Java - Locally roasted, organic espresso beans give this Cocomel a delicious coffee flavor.
