Wheatsville Board Book Group--May 4, 2010
Your Board is currently reading a book called Tribes, by Seth Godin, which is all about how groups of people come together and make change through good, strategic leadership and communication. Godin calls these groups "tribes" because they are "a group of people connected to one another, connected to a leader, and connected to an idea." We are currently working on strategically understanding how we can better lead and connect with our tribe--Wheatsville Owners! This is a perfect example of the strategically focused, "big picture" work of your Board, and the Board invites you to be a part of the conversation. The Board will host a strategic learning book group discussion on Tribes, Tuesday, May 4. To join, even if you haven't read the book, meet at the Hospitality Desk at 5:30 pm. Cut Fruit
We're mixing it up, and throwing some water melon into our mixed melon cups this week. We are also providing a smaller size of the mixed berries that are merchandised near the yogurt in the dairy cooler. Thank you for making this program a success! If you are interested in knowing if we are using organic ingredients in our cut-fruit, please ask a produce clerk and we'll let you know what is organic.
Flowers
We'll be running a special on flowers in a few weeks for Mother's Day, so be on the look out! Our flowers are sustainably produced, and are gorgeous! We're working on getting some local varieties in soon as well!

The first time I tried the Liz Lovely Chocolate Moose Dragons, I thought it was some kind of prank as if someone had somehow tricked me into thinking that I was eating a cookie when in fact I was stuffing an entire chocolate cake in my face. Rainy weekend, might as well shop for groceries and EARTH WEEK!
I hope the weather report is wrong, but it looks like it might be a rainy one. Bright side is that it will be cool enough to cook! So, maybe get yourself some chili fixings or maybe even get some late season baking done! We won't have too many more weekends before it's summer to actually fire up our ovens, right?!?

I was able to tour the Windy Bar cattle ranch last Saturday. We spent the day meeting Michael Kline owner of Windy Bar in Stonewall Texas. I was really impressed with the level of care Mr. Kline has for his land and animals, both of which he owns. They practice proper pasture management, and have grown very lush pastures of native Texas grasses and legumes. They are also keen on animal welfare, and are well read on modern trends for sustainable agriculture. I'll be writing more about them in the future. If you're interested we're selling the skirt steaks (fajitas) for $8.99 lb, along with some offal cuts in the freezer. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. I personally like what the folks at Windy Bar are doing and I think they make a nice addition to our family of products.

The Wheatsville Bakery has been hard at work bringing you sweet treats for springtime, like our sweet-tart Ultimate Lemon Bars, fudgy Texas Sheet Cake, and healthy Zucchini Bread. And remember, Wheat-Free Wednesday is still going strong in our Bakery, with lots of gluten-free sweet treats like breads, cookies, cakes and muffins available every Wednesday for those who avoid wheat or just want a change of pace!
The spicy and gorgeous Sweet Serrano, our new Salsa of the Month for April is a standout! A beautiful mix of orange, red and green, this chunky salsa is filled with hot peppers, sweet peaches, red onions, tomatoes and cilantro! Eat it with chips – betcha can't eat just one! – or spoon it over grilled fish or pork!
Our Smoothie of the Month also features peaches, but goes for the Cobbler effect, blending frozen peaches with a touch of cinnamon, vanilla and almond butter! This comfortingly cold, thick drink is "Just Peachy!"
