Wheatsville Logo

Hello Wheatsville friends and fans!

March is here and we've been cooking up lots of exciting events and deals just for you! Why? Because it's Wheatsville's Birthday and we like to celebrate in a BIG way! Yep, Wheatsville turns 36 on Friday, March 16th and we're celebrating with limited edition birthday t-shirts, free cake and lots of Super Awesome One Day Deals all week long!

Wheatsville is in business because of you, our owners, and we can't think of any better way of saying thank you that kicking off Owner Appreciation Days on March 10th with a visit from our favorite local marching band, Minor Mishap!

They'll be marching through our local neighborhood, spreading good cheer and gettin' loud at 11am followed by an in-store march through our aisles. If you miss them this Saturday you can always join in the fun at HONK!TX music festival from March 23rd-25th. Wheatsville is once again the Grand Marshall of this free community music festival and hope you can come out and join us!

And, to sweeten these Owner Appreciation Days just a little more, Owners who shop with us 3/10-3/18 are automatically entered to win 2 tickets to Sustainable Food Center's Farm to Plate fundraiser at Barr Mansion on May 10th featuring over 25 top Austin chefs! More information below.

And a HUGE THANK YOU to the Austin Parks Foundation and all of the volunteers who donted their time and energy Saturday morning, March 3rd in parks all over Austin for It's My Park Day. Our Wheatsville team helped spread dillo dirt and mulch out at Pease Park and were happy to work alongside many dedicated and energetic folks!

WHEATSVILLE'S ONE BIG THING

This Week's ONE BIG THING is freshly prepared Dinner for Two in our Grab & Go deli prepack section. Why do we like it?

1. Large portions of our favorite dishes freshly made from the Deli!

2. Dinner can be made FAST! Conveniently packaged and ready to go - just heat & eat!

3. Add a fresh garden salad and you've got a nutritious, healthy meal for two!

Plant Your Garden

We're excited to see the return of Organic Starter Plants from Gabriel Valley Farms just north of us in Georgetown.  We love that there is a small, family-owned operation producing organic starters for us.  Right now, we've got an assortment of herbs and tomatoes with a wider variety of starter plants for your garden coming each week. Since mild weather is in the forecast, it's not a bad idea to get some plants in the ground early this year!

The seasons are changing!  Spring is coming and that means BERRIES!  We've gotten our first deliveries of strawberries from Oak Hill Farms in Poteet and we'll see strawberries from Wheeler Farms, also located in Poteet.  Poteet is the location of Texas' Strawberry Festival every year, so they know their berries!  In addition to local berries, we're seeing better and better strawberries and raspberries from Mexico (California berries coming soon).  Expect blackberries in the near future, too.   Good times!

While citrus season is on its way out, there are still some delicious citrus offerings available to us and Organic Cara Cara Navels are one of our favorites.  Mild, sweet, juicy, flavorful, and FUN, Cara Caras are always a hit.

Dinner for Two

Dinner For Two? Step Right Up to Wheatsville's Self-Service Deli Case!

Have you seen our new Dinners For Two? On the bottom shelf of our self service case are large portion meals-to-go: choose from Vegan Mac & "Cheese" with Broccoli, Turkey Florentine Meatballs with Spaghetti Sauce, vegan Tomato Braised Tofu over Brown Rice, Broccoli Cheddar Rice Casserole and Braised Greens with White Beans. These heat'n'eat meals-to-go will help you get a solid dinner on the table in a hurry – just boil some pasta to go with your Meatballs and stretch that dinner to feed four! Tomato Braised Tofu is fine on its own, but if you grab the Greens with Beans as a side to either item, you've got a well rounded meal ready in minutes. Also in self-serve you'll see large portions of Popcorn Tofu, Buffalo Popcorn Tofu, Cashew Linguine, Green Beans Amandine, and our favorite Rosie Jane's Spaghetti Sauce, so the options continue to grow – just mix and match for a number of great, easy, quick dinners!

Fish Friday

In observance of Lent the Wheatsville Seafood Department is proud to have  Sustainable Fish Fridays. This week we have Trollerpoint wild caught Halibut Filets on sale Friday, March 9th for $3 OFF PER POUND - SALE $21.99lb regularly $24.99lb! WOW!

Check out the front freezer for great deals on some limited time favorites:
Ian's Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets $4.29
Ian's Gluten Free Fish Sticks $3.99
Ian's Natural Sea Fish Sticks and Filets $4.29.
We only have these items for a limited time. If you love them, you should stock up.

Do you have visitors in town for SXSW? It's easy to make a big meal with our new Niman Ranch sustainably and humanely raised Beef Entrees. Beef Pot Roast in Pomodoro Sauce and Beef Tips Provencal.  These products help keep small family run farms on the land. Just heat and serve. Get your sides at the Wheatsville Deli and they will never know how easy it was.

Or, show them your awesome grilling skills with a Niman Ranch Hanger Steak. One of the best kept secrets in beef, the Hanger steak is a complex mixture of texture and flavor that is unmatched by other steak cuts. They may be be shaped funny for a steak, but they cut up into medallions and go great on salads.

Local Love

I Love March. Have I said this before? The days are getting longer and the flowers are blooming. It also means SXSW, Owner Appreciation, Wheatsville's Birthday and St. Patrick's Day. SXSW and Owner Appreciation begin this weekend.

We're showing our local pride for SXSW with locally made organic Cheese curds made by our friends from Texas Daily Harvest. We already carry their plain and spicy cheese curds, but we have brought in two new flavors - Cajun and Garlic Dill. I like using their curds on my baked potato. Try this French Canadian favorite Poutine. How can you go wrong with French fries, cheese curds and gravy? My suggestion, add bacon.

Our local goat dairy, Pure Luck Dairy, is now delivering their Sainte Maure and Feta. Their Sainte Maure is an authentic French regional cheese, dry, robust texture, sharp, surface-ripened, firm and smooth, strong, and complex. Their Feta is consistently one of the top Goat Feta in this country and is featured in the upcoming issue of Culture magazine.

It can mean but one thing, Owner Appreciation is upon us yet again, bump bump bump bump. Rejoice and revel in this wonderful week!

Beer & Wine

Saint Arnold's Endeavor Double IPA. I am proud to say that the best new beer in the case right now is from Texas! Named after the Space Shuttle of the same name, St. Arnold Endeavour is the first of the Divine Reserve series to make its way into the regular rotation. As many craft beer fans are aware, the Divine Reserve series is a St. Arnold specialty and each year, a new entry in the series is released. St. Arnold Endeavour was first enjoyed as Divine Reserve #11 and it was so well received that the good people at St. Arnold decided to add it to the regular lineup. Awesome!

Eppa SuperFruit Sangria is here! Premium wine varietals and real, organic fruit juices make Eppa SuperFruit Sangria antioxidant-rich, boasting nearly twice the antioxidants as a glass of red wine! Light bodied and refreshing, Eppa introduces itself with crisp citrus notes that meld into pomegranate and berry overtones. The fruit flavors in Eppa SuperFruit Sangria come from real, organic fruit juices, drawn from antioxidant-rich superfruits, including, Pomegranate, Blueberry, Mediterranean Blood Orange, and Acai.

New at Wheatsville

We work hard to seek out exciting new products and flavors we think our members will love.
Here’s what’s new at Wheatsville this week.

Arrowhead Mills now offers a new cold cereal: Organic Sprouted Multigrain Flakes. With a base of organic sprouted grains including barley, wheat, brown rice and spelt, this whole grain cereal is a good source of fiber and is low in fat. Sprouted grains are significantly higher in protein, vitamins and enzymes, and the complex starches are converted into natural sugars. Low on the gastric index (GI), they are digested more slowly by the body, which keeps blood sugar levels stable for longer and contributes to a lengthier feeling of being satisfied. Sweetened lightly with fruit juice. Reg. $4.69 10oz.

Adzuki beans aren't your average bean! High in protein, they have great flavor and have many health-supportive properties. Add a spicy kick with green chilies, cumin, and chipotle pepper and you have one amazing burger. Hilary's Eat Well makes delicious, convenient, and amazing food that is free of gluten, dairy, corn, egg, soy, yeast, and nuts. Each burger starts with gluten-free whole grains, then vegetables and healthy fat to create a veggie burger that even carnivores devour. Other ingredients include organic quinoa and millet, sweet potato, psyllium husk and more. Try popping one in your toaster for a uniquely crispy patty! Each package contains two patties in a biodegradable bag. Keep frozen.
Reg. $3.99 6.4oz.

PROBAR creates delicious, convenient, healthy plant-based food products.  Made from whole, organic raw foods, and 100 percent vegan, PROBAR is a natural alternative with easy to pronounce ingredients. Each bar packs a wallop, coming in at nearly 400 calories, about a quarter of the daily-recommended intake of fiber, and 9-12 grams of protein. PROBAR is not your average snack; it's a total meal replacement for those seeking delicious, sustaining energy on the go. Reg. $2.89 3oz.

Ancient Harvest introduces a new option in gluten free pastas: a quinoa-based organic instant Mac & Cheese. Quinoa contains more protein than any other grain; an average of 16.2 percent, compared with 7.5 percent for rice, 9.9 percent for millet, and 14 percent for wheat. Some varieties of quinoa are more than 20 percent protein. Quinoa's protein is of an unusually high quality. It is a complete protein, with an essential amino acid balance close to the ideal ... similar to milk! Reach for Ancient Harvest Mac & Cheese for a quick, easy gluten free meal anytime. Reg. $3.49 6oz.

If you hate guilt but love the flavor of buttery jack cheese with a spicy pepper kick, we have your perfect snack. Blue Diamond's new Pepper Jack Cheese Nut Thins are loaded with flavor but free of wheat, gluten and saturated fat. Great alone or paired with dips or salsa. Reg. $2.89 4.25oz.

If you’ve ever tasted the Dark Chocolate Covered Sprouted Almonds from our Bulk department, you know just how dangerously addictive they are. Now, the same producer who supplies us those almonds, the Sprouted Almond Company, offers them in the form of a decadent, raw, sprouted nut butter. It’s SO good, we were fighting over the sample jar we were given! Put back the loaf of bread and just go get a spoon—it’s all this nut butter needs for maximum enjoyment. Find it in our raw foods set, in aisle 3. Reg. $17.99 16oz.
