New at Wheatsville

Just in time for New Year’s, local vendor and Wheatsville favorite The Hearty Vegan has started producing Black Eyed Pea Tempeh! Read on for more about everything new at Wheatsville this week.

We want to know what products you are excited about! Do you have a new favorite, an old standby or something that has piqued your curiosity at another store? Let us know! We can't promise you will see every single item here in the future but we can promise to give every wish serious consideration. Send us an email with as much detail as you can at wishlist@wheatsville.coop

Tempeh is a delicious Indonesian fermented staple, traditionally made from soybeans, that is high in fiber, low in saturated fat, has no cholesterol and is comparable to beef in percentage of protein. Its rich, nutty flavor and chewy texture make it an extremely versatile meat-substitute. Hearty Vegan's tempeh uses ingredients that are health supporting, organic, vegan, and domestically grown. The new Black Eyed Pea Tempeh provides a soy free, wheat free option for those seeking an equally tasty alternative to traditional tempeh. Wheatsville uses Austin-based Hearty Vegan’s tempeh in most of our deli’s house-made foods that call for tempeh.

Wheatsville NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Wheatsville Friends and Fans, we need your help!

Wheatsville is seeking a variance to allow us to sell beer/ wine at our planned South Lamar store.

While our planned beer and wine department is small (similar to what we have now) it is an important feature of offering a one-stop shop grocery for our South Austin friends and Owners and is what most people have come to expect from a grocery store. Granting this variance is a good way for the City Council to help a local business  have the best chance of success in our new location.

Demonstrating just how many Austinites want Wheatsville to succeed with the variance request is crucial! We'll need TONS of support to help City Council vote in our favor on this and YOU can help in 1, 2 or 3 ways!

#1- Write an email to your council person telling them that you support the variance for Wheatsville.
It's Agenda Item #94. Email can be brief, but include your name and where you live, please. If you have school age children, mention that and how safe and secure you all feel at Wheatsville or something like that. You can contact each individual council person. This is best, especially if you have had personally contact with a council member: Mayor Lee Leffingwell, Mayor Pro Tem Sheryl Cole, Mike Martinez, Kathie Tovo, Chris Riley, Laura Morrison, and Bill Spelman. Or to send emails to all the council members at once, you can use this web form: http://austintexas.gov/mail/all-council-members

#2- Register your support- Head down to City Hall between now and Wednesday and use their digital kiosk to log in and register your support for Agenda Item #94!

#3- Show up at City Hall on Thursday! Plan to show up at City Hall on Thursday at 6:30 pm with your Wheatsville T-shirt and a sign or banner expressing your support of Wheatsville's variance request.

We want to REALLY bring it for Council this week, so we need to get the people power going!
Thanks in advance for doing 1 or 2 or 3 of these things!

If you plan on attending on Thursday, will you please send me an email back to let me know? I'd appreciate it. gm@wheatsville.coop

I know that people are very busy this time of year and I hate for us to be a bother, but we really do need to do this NOW and have the Council vote in our favor. If we don't  get them hundreds of emails and a bunch of people at Council, they may decide that they can't support our variance request.

Thanks again! I really appreciate your support each and every day!
You can see KVUE's report on the issue here.
